PEACE EDUCATION WORKING GROUP MEETING
Jerusalem, Israel. 18-20 May, 2009

PROPOSED OBJECTIVES
- to exchange and update each other on recent Peace Education activities and projects carried out in the regions during the last 6 months;
- to review projects planned for the rest of 2009, and to discuss strategic and administrative details of regional and cross-regional Peace Education activities;
- to be introduced to the regional conflict context, in particular to learn about various Peace Education activities addressing several aspects of conflict dynamics in the region; and to meet with the local actors working in the area of Peace Education as well as with their beneficiary communities in order to gain and share experiences.

Day 1, 18 May:
09.00-12.00 Exchange and Update: Peace Education activities and projects
11.00-13.00 Overview of PE projects in 2009
13.00-14.00 Lunch
14.00-18.00 Planning of Cross-Regional Projects and Events:  
- PE Conference in November 2009, Korea
- Cross-Regional Teacher Exchange Projects: Western CIS - The   Balkans; Eastern and Central Africa - The Balkans; possibly other regions
- International Policy Working Group Meeting, June 2009
- Evaluation Research Project
- E-Newsletter

18.00-19.30  -Visit/drive around East Jerusalem including the Mount of
Olives.
-Possible meeting with the rector of the Hebrew University
and dinner with some faculty there. 

Day 2, 19 May:
09.00-11.00 Discussion on Peace Education Working Group Composition, Membership, and Structure.
11.30-13.00  Brainstorming: Peace Education Community on the Peace Portal
13.00-14.00  Lunch
14.00-18.00 Study visit to Beit Safafa (divided village) Bethlehem and Hebron.   -Meetings with activists and peace educators.
-The visit will include the wall, the settlements, and the centre of Hebron.
18.00-20.00 Optional:
-Meeting with Saeb Erikat, the former Palestinian chief negotiator, PhD. in peace and conflict studies.
-Meetings/ discussions with teachers at the hotel. 
Day 3, 20 May:     
9.00-13.00  The challenges and opportunities of working with Peace Education during an ongoing and often escalating conflict
Discussion and presentations focusing on experience and experiments and also on media and psychology
- Dr. Shafeeq Masalha on his experimental “Bi-lingual School”
- Possibly Dr. Tamar Weiss of Haifa University who has been developing a computer model/table for teaching youth (schoolchildren) on how to deal with conflict.  
The participants will include experts from both the Palestinian and the Israeli communities.

14.00-15.30  Wrap-up, evaluation
